About Me

Hello and Welcome to Friendly Psychology! I believe that as an individual looking for help, you deserve to be engaged with as a whole person, not just as your emotional distress or mental illness. With that idea in mind, I crafted the idea of Friendly Psychology, treatment that begins with a positive belief in you.

As a Clinical Psychologist I recognize that not everyone seeking counseling needs a long course of therapy. Sometimes folks are just looking for support through a difficult situation, or need help changing the way they are thinking about or perceiving life experiences. I am experienced and well trained to meet such brief counseling needs as well as provide longer term therapy for significant mental health issues.

My family resides in beautiful Kansas City, MO ~ the city of fountains and parks. We have two lovely dogs that believe they are the center of the universe and will often decide to "sit-in" on telehealth therapy sessions. So don't be surprised by a little barking noise in the background!

Telehealth, or online therapy, is an cost effective and viable alternative for many folks and one I hope you will consider. It offers increased convenience and security for my patients and reduces the financial and time burdens. Please give me a call or send a message and I would be happy to have a conversation about conducting our sessions via secure, real-time, online video.

Currently holding active licenses in Missouri, California, and Iowa, I received my Doctoral and Masters degrees from Seattle Pacific University, in Seattle Washington. My post-doctoral residency was completed at the Harry S Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, MO, where I specialized in treating Veterans with co-morbid PTSD and traumatic brain injury. I have served female Veterans and championed the mental health care of male and female survivors of sexual assault during my time at the Iowa City VA Health Care System where I worked as the Women's Clinic Staff Psychologist and Military Sexual Trauma Coordinator. Prior to entering private practice, I worked as a Staff Psychologist at the Phoenix, AZ VA in the specialized PTSD treatment clinic, treating Veterans with PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief/bereavement and adjustment disorders. In my private practice I have expanded my treatment areas to include OCD and more general relationship issues.

I'm very passionate about continued education and the integration of cutting edge technology into the science of psychology. I strive to combine warmth and humor with client education and evidence based treatment. Clients and patients are encouraged to participate in a collaborative manner, accepting their responsibility and power to effect change in their own mental health and life management.
