About Me

Dr. Dawn Yelvington has experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families who are struggling with relational conflicts, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems.  She also has experience in working with clients and families struggling with substance abuse issues.  Dr. Yelvington utilizes a variety of therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused Therapy.  As a therapist, she is open and supportive in her approach with her clients, with the goal of empowering them to function at their optimal potential.  She encourages her clients to achieve a higher level of self-awareness, self-acceptance and the courage to face their struggles.  Dr. Yelvington holds a PhD in Counseling Studies.  Her dissertation was on parental grief  and the utilization of group equine assisted therapy.  She specializes in grief and loss, military veterans & families, equine assisted psychotherapy, residential group addiction equine assisted psychotherapy and women’s issues to include low self-esteem, depression and codependency.

At Healing Hearts Therapies, I encourage my clients to achieve a higher level of self-awareness, self-acceptance and the courage to face their struggles.   My specialization is in men, women and teenage issues to include low self-esteem, grief and loss, depression, anxiety and codependency.   Experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families who are struggling with relational conflicts, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems.  Also have experience in working with clients and families struggling with substance abuse issues.  Military specific training (120 hours) from Center for Deployment Psychology delivered to Civilian providers working with military service members and their families.  Utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, Equine Assisted and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.  As a therapist, I am open and supportive in my approach with clients, with the goal of empowering them to function at their optimal potential.
