Lydia Cerpa

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (FL, TX, NY)

About Me

My bicultural life experience growing up in the Bronx, NYC as a Latina with a Puerto Rican heritage, has helped me relate to people of diverse cultures and demographics. Having traveled the world in Europe and most recently in Japan, I continue to enjoy meeting many people, learning about their culture and way of thinking.

After relocating to Tampa Bay Florida in 1988, I began raising a family and developing my clinical skills further.

In my personal time I enjoy my 2 adult children, 2 young grandchildren, my friends, family, hobbies, yoga, travel and outdoor activities like tennis, kayaking, cycling and hiking. It is essential for our wellbeing that we keep balance in mind, spiritual and physical dimensions!

My education and LCSW was obtained in NYC where I began work in a private counseling center in addition to supportive counseling for students in several Bronx High Schools.

Later I worked at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Early Childhood Center, also in the Bronx, helping families with children the were developmentally challenged.

My career includes experience as an in-patient hospital psychiatric social worker at the University of South Florida Psychiatry Center Tampa, and more than 20 years of outpatient counseling in Tampa and Brandon Florida.

Neurofeedback (EEG therapy) was another tool I obtained and offered to my clients in Tampa and South Florida, where I relocated developing a successful therapy practice in Brickell, Miami.

Along the journey I obtained my Yoga teacher's training certification (200 hours). I integrate the principles of mindfulness and meditation as a lifestyle and a wellness practice. In 2014 I began to work as Military Family Life Counselor and am still active providing supportive, non-medical counseling to service members and their families around the world.

Master of Social Work from City University of New York Hunter College Silberman Graduate School of Social Work - 1983

Yoga Teacher Training 200 hour RYT -2010

My approach in counseling relies strongly on the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) tools, developing mindfulness and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
